Pear Shape

If you have a pear shape, your hip measurement is noticeably wider than your shoulder measurement, your shoulders are narrower and possibly slightly rounded. You wear a smaller size on the top half and will usually have a defined waist, whether or not you feel comfortable with your tummy section, your waist is usually narrower. Your legs are likely to be fuller or more muscular and your top half is narrower.

Your Styling Goals

To balance out the proportions by maximising the shoulder line and to create silhouette to accentuate the waist. Many clients believe they should be attempting to hide or minimise the hip which only adds bulk. Using clever dressing tips to extend the shoulderline will make the waist look narrower and the hip appear more balanced.

How?

Elongate the shoulder by wearing off the shoulder tops, puffy sleeves and wide necklines.

Draw attention to the top half of your body with colour, print and detail at the top. Add jewellery, jackets and layering on top.

Accentuate the waist by tucking in your top, wearing high waists, wearing a mid-width belt and choosing tops and dresses which nip in at the waist

Wear wider leg and straight leg trousers, avoiding any skinny or tight fitting bottoms

Jackets should either be waist length, or thigh length. Any jackets finishing at the hip will draw attention at the wrong area.

Choose fabrics which are soft, drapey and crepe on the bottom, which follow the curves. Bulky fabrics on the bottom half should be avoided.
